ebook: learning activity
OVERVIEW
Often times, vocabulary gets lost in a Math class. The teacher might just spit out definitions as he is lecturing. The students don't associate what they consider an English class skill with the Mathematics class. Either way, definitions end up being forgotten. Therefore, students will create an evolving eBook of definitions throughout the course.
OBJECTIVES
Students will be able to:
CCSS.Math.Practice.MP3 Construct viable arguments and critique the reasoning of others.
CCSS.Math.Practice.MP6 Attend to precision.
ONLINE TOOLS
The recommended site for creating eBooks is BOOKRIX. Students can search around for other sites and request use of those sites from the instructor.
ACTIVITY
As students progress through the course, they will define mathematical terms that they will place in their eBooks with pictures or illustrations. What terms the students choose to define will be up to them, however, since they will be allowed to use the eBook as reference during assessment activities, it is recommended that they be as thorough as possible. Students will have vocabulary quizzes where the only source they can use is their eBook. Periodically, students eBooks will be examined by the instructor for quantity and quality of the work. Students will receive feedback on what they should do to improve their eBook.
