MUSIC, ART AND PHYSICAL EDUCATION
This Glog centers around the use of Tangrams, which is a Chinese puzzle game used to create pictures. This lends them well to being used in the Art, Music and Physical Education content areas.
Tangrams Glog Learning Activity
The theme of this year’s spring festival will be “Tangrams Day”. To design activities to be conducted on Tangrams Day, the students will use the Tangrams Glog as their guide to complete the following tasks.
1. Students will create a decorative, personal set of tangrams (activity 2). To make a sturdy, longer lasting set of tangrams, students should use wood instead of cardboard. Suggestions for personalizing the tangrams is to place a photo on the tangram, create a pattern, celebrate an event, or any other pre-approved decoration. These will be displayed on Tangram Day.
2. Students will design a physical education activity using tangrams (similar to activity 4). On Tangram Day, there will be competitions using these activities.
3. Students will find a song (or write their own) that uses tangrams to tell the story (see Activity 6). Students will use their personal set to create the tangram figures and take photos of them. Students will be required to create a display of their song with photos for Tangram Day. Students must also create a video representation of their song (see Activity 7). These videos will be uploaded to YouTube and a playlist will be created that will be shown during Tangram Day activities.
4. Students will create an art project using tangrams (see activity 8 for an example). The students are free to design using the media of their choice. For this task, students may work in groups and put on a short play or musical number, design a human sculpture, build large scale tangrams, create decorative tangrams for holidays or special occasions, or any other pre-approved activity that they crafted. These projects will be presented as the concluding activity of Tangrams Day.
